Here at the George we take customer satisfaction very seriously. We constantly strive for perfection and excellence in all areas of our business. Our kitchen holds a 5 star rating for health and hygiene, and our rooms and restaurant earned a Certificate of Excellence in the 2014 Trip Advisor awards. We are a member of “Taste of the West” and our real ales are backed by our “Cask Marque” award with which we constantly achieve the highest marks available.
We are also very competitive and enter numerous national competitions relating to our food skills. We recently entered the “National Scotch Egg Challenge” and ‘first time out,’ came fifth in the UK. Encouraged by our success we have entered further competitions, and we will be posting our successes in our news blog for all to see.
Cask Marque Achieved
We have achieved this prestigious status over the last 12 months and are proud to serve all our Local Ales with quality.
Since 1997, Cask Marque has been ensuring that the cask ale people drink in pubs in the UK is been in perfect condition. Cask Marque have over forty-five qualified assessors and they make over 20,000 visits to pubs in the UK each year.
The ‘Cask Marque’ is an award for pubs which serve great quality cask ale.
Cask Marque is an independent company funded by brewers, pub groups and trade bodies with the aim of improving beer quality through their accreditation scheme.
Qualified assessors make over 20,000 visits a year to over 9,000 pubs which hold the award. They test for temperature (to score full marks the beer should be between 10 – 14 degrees), appearance, aroma and taste.
All beers must make the grade to pass the visit.
Accredited pubs are then promoted through the CaskFinder App, CaskFinder Online and through the plaque and point of sale at the pub. Recent independent research by Cardinal for the 2014 Cask Report identified that 71% of beer drinkers recognised the Cask Marque plaque as a badge of quality.
